Developer Tools
Free developer tools that run in your browser: LUA Script Editor. Open any tool straight from the page - no download and no setup.
The developer tools read code rather than files. They parse what you paste, point at what is wrong with it, and hand back something you can put straight back into the editor you took it from — in the browser, with nothing installed and no project to set up.
The reason they are separate from a generic code formatter is that a generic formatter breaks on dialects. Luau, the language Roblox Studio runs, carries syntax that plain Lua does not have: compound assignment, type annotations on parameters, string interpolation. A JavaScript-oriented prettifier either refuses the file or quietly mangles it, which is worse. A tool that knows the dialect formats the script, keeps the semantics and flags the line that will not compile before the game engine does.
The practical use is reading someone else's script. Code that arrives from a forum post, a Discord message or a model in the catalogue is usually minified into one long line, and the question you have about it — what it touches, whether it does anything you did not ask for — cannot be answered in that shape. Formatting it back into lines and highlighting the syntax is what makes the answer visible, and that step does not need a project, an install or an account.
